Privacy Policy

This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information, consistent with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Last updated 17 August 2026

Information we collect

To provide accounting and taxation services we typically collect: your name, contact details and date of birth; your tax file number and ABN; income, expense, banking and investment records; identity documents required to verify you as a client; and correspondence between us. We collect this from you directly, from the ATO through our registered agent access with your authority, and from third parties you nominate such as your bank, employer or previous accountant.

Why we collect it

To prepare and lodge returns and statements, provide advice, meet our professional and legal obligations (including the Tax Agent Services Act 2009, Anti-Money Laundering requirements where applicable, and record-keeping laws), respond to your enquiries, and administer our engagement with you. We do not use your information for unrelated marketing without your consent.

Tax file numbers

Tax file numbers are subject to specific protections. We collect and use TFNs only for taxation purposes, never as a general identifier, and never disclose them except as authorised by law. Please do not send your TFN or bank details by ordinary email — ask us for a secure upload link.

Disclosure

We may disclose your information to the ATO and other government agencies as required; to our professional advisers, software providers and cloud service providers who assist in delivering our services; to an independent auditor where an audit is legally required (for example, for an SMSF); and to any party you specifically authorise, such as your bank or broker. Some service providers may store data outside Australia — we take reasonable steps to ensure they protect it to an equivalent standard.

Storage and security

Records are held in access-controlled cloud systems with encryption in transit and at rest, and multi-factor authentication on practice accounts. We retain records for the periods required by law and our professional obligations, generally at least five years after the engagement ends, then securely destroy or de-identify them.

Access and correction

You can request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct anything inaccurate, by emailing contact@taxaccountantbrisbane.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable period and may need to verify your identity first. Access may be refused in limited circumstances permitted by the Privacy Act, in which case we'll explain why.

Website, cookies and analytics

This website is a static site. It does not require an account, does not set advertising cookies, and does not track you across other websites. If analytics are enabled in future, this policy will be updated to identify the provider and the data collected. Enquiry form submissions are transmitted to us and stored with your client records.

Complaints

If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, contact us first at contact@taxaccountantbrisbane.com.au so we can investigate. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au. Complaints about our professional conduct can be made to the Tax Practitioners Board.
