A CFO's judgement, without a CFO's salary.

Forecasting, margin analysis, board-grade reporting and the hard conversations about pricing and capital — for businesses too big to run on instinct and too small for a full-time finance chief.

What is a virtual CFO, and when do you need one?

A virtual CFO is a senior finance professional engaged part-time to do what a full-time CFO would: build and defend the cash-flow forecast, own the budget and KPI reporting, interrogate margin and pricing, prepare lender and investor packs, and sit in the room when capital, hiring and acquisition decisions are made. The trigger is usually turnover between $2m and $20m, or any point where decisions have become too expensive to guess at but a $200k salary isn't justified.

  • From $1,200/month, scoped in advance
  • 13-week and 12-month cash-flow models
  • Monthly or quarterly board pack
  • Lender and investor-ready reporting

Why us

What you get working with us.

Forecasts that get used

A 13-week rolling cash-flow model driven by your actual receipts and payment terms — updated, reviewed and acted on, not built once and abandoned.

Margin at the level decisions happen

Gross margin by job, product, channel or client — because the blended number never tells you what to stop doing.

Funding conversations you win

Serviceability packs, forecasts and financial statements in the format credit teams expect, which shortens approvals and improves terms.

Compliance already handled

We prepare your accounts and returns too, so advice sits on numbers we've verified rather than a management report we've been handed.

Scope

What the engagement covers.

1

Cash-flow forecasting

13-week rolling model plus a 12-month projection including BAS, income tax instalments, super and loan commitments.

2

Budget and variance reporting

An annual budget by month, then actual-versus-budget reporting with commentary on what moved and what to do about it.

3

KPI dashboard

The three to five numbers that actually drive your result — margin, utilisation, cash days, conversion — tracked consistently.

4

Pricing and margin analysis

Contribution by product, service line or job, break-even volumes, and modelling of price and cost changes before you commit.

5

Funding and lender support

Serviceability packs, forecasts, covenant tracking and direct liaison with brokers and credit teams.

6

Board and shareholder reporting

A monthly or quarterly pack a non-accountant director can read, plus attendance at board or management meetings.

FAQ

Questions we're asked most.

How is a virtual CFO different from my accountant?

Your accountant reports what happened and lodges it. A CFO decides what should happen next: whether to raise prices, take the finance, make the hire, chase the acquisition, or hold cash. Same discipline, opposite direction in time. We do both, which is why the advice can be specific rather than generic.

At what turnover does this make sense?

Usually from around $2m, or earlier if you're capital-intensive, inventory-heavy or growing fast enough that cash timing has become the binding constraint. Below that, quarterly business advisory is normally the better-value option — and we'll tell you if that's you.

What does a virtual CFO cost compared with hiring?

A full-time CFO in Brisbane costs $180k–$250k plus super and on-costs. A virtual engagement runs $1,200–$2,400 a month — $14k to $29k a year — because you're buying judgement and reporting cadence, not headcount. The trade-off is availability: we're not in your building daily.

Do you replace our bookkeeper or finance manager?

No — we sit above them and make them more effective. Ideally your internal person owns the data and we own the interpretation, the forecast and the board conversation. Where there's no internal person, we can supply bookkeeping too.

Will you attend board meetings?

Yes, in the Growth engagement — monthly or quarterly, in person in Brisbane or by video, with the pack circulated beforehand so the meeting is about decisions rather than reading.

Can you help us get finance approved?

We prepare the financial case — historical statements, forecasts, serviceability and covenant modelling — and work alongside your broker or lender. We're accountants, not credit advisers, so we don't recommend specific loan products; we make sure the numbers stand up.
